TORONTO, Sept. 17 /CNW/ - BMG Canada Inc. /ViK. Recordings is proud to announce the signing of Ryan Malcolm, the winner of the Canadian Idol competition.

Ryan beat out thousands of competitors from across Canada to claim the coveted Canadian Idol crown. CTV televised the results of the nationwide competition on Tuesday, September 16. During the backstage festivities at the Canadian Idol finale, Ryan met with Lisa Zbitnew, President, BMG Canada to sign Ryan's recording contract. Lisa Zbitnew said; "We are thrilled with Ryan's success in the Canadian Idol competition; and, very excited to be working with such a talented vocalist. We look forward to working with Canada's newest star on his debut album!"

Last night's win set in motion the whirlwind of activity for Ryan - beginning with the single being delivered to Canadian radio stations overnight. Ryan's next stop is a performance on Canada AM, Wednesday, September 17, performing his first single "Something More". Ryan will spend the next two days being interviewed by various media sources. Ryan will also appear live on MuchMusic's "Much on Demand" Thursday, September 18 at 5:10 pm EST. The next day, Ryan will be shooting a video in Toronto, followed by a week of meetings with songwriters and producers for his debut album, scheduled to be released on December 9.

The debut single, "Something More" was written by Perry / Alexander and Rupert Gayle, who have been responsible for recent hits from Shawn Desman and Keshia Chante. "Something More" will be available, in Canadian music stores, on September 30. That same day, Ryan will return to his hometown of Kingston, Ontario for the "Wal-Mart Hometown Celebration", which includes a CD autograph signing at Wal-Mart Frontenac.
