Jeff Griffith - "If It Ain't One Thing (It's Another)" CD Review
Jeff Griffith / Arrowhead Records Review by Preshias CLICK HERE to purchase the album When Country entertainment legend Joe Stampley enthuses about a rising star, those in the know on Music Row listen. Here’s what Stampley has to say about Jeff Griffith: “Jeff has one of the most believable country voices I have ever heard. When Jeff sings a song, he literally ‘becomes’ the person in that song.” Slide Jeff Griffith’s new CD, “If It Ain’t One Thing It’s Another” into your player and see if Stampley knows what he’s talking about. Of course he does. Before the first track (“It Ain’t The Clothes That Make The Man”) has faded, it’s apparent why Stampley took on the task of producing Jeff’s debut CD. Jeff’s voice is perfect for this easy-loping ode to the woman who makes the man, and doubtless it’s already got cowboy boots two-steppin’ across the dusty floors of a hundred Texas hony-tonks. Jeff’s voice echoes Country greats like George Jones on tracks such as “Let’s Make Love Tonight Like There’s No Tomorrow,” as he sings, “When at work today, everything went wrong / and I just couldn’t wait to get back home / and I could see the day’s been hard on you / and I think I know just what we ought to do,” there’ll be a lot of heads nodding and echoes of “amen!” Make no mistake there’s plenty of stuff that packs the dance floor at Jeff’s live shows. He walks through those swingin’ doors on “Holed Up In Some Honky Tonk” and tells his soon-to-be-ex: “You say you’re gonna let me go / Hell, I’m as good as gone / If you don’t want me hangin’ round / I ain’t hangin’ on.” No traditional Country album would be complete with some late-night reflection about a lost love over a few glasses of hard liquor. Jeff’s plaintive voice is filled with regret for what could have been on the ballad, “Whiskey Talkin’.” But don’t feel too bad for Jeff. On the next track he must have a new love as he gives us the up-tempo “Tonight Was Made For The Two Of Us.” All in all, an eleven-track album that will be a must-have gem for devotees of traditional Country delivered with passion by a rich, honest voice.
