Gary Allan
Greatest Hits - March, 2007 [MCA Nashville]
Review by Cheryl Breo
Being a Southern California born honky tonk country singer once labeled Gary Allan as an outsider in Nashville. But, he always knew exactly who he was and remained true to his musical style, never afraid to take risks or speak his mind in his songs.
That strong conviction to his beliefs, combined with a voice that is warmly rugged yet seductive and lyrics that are honest, down-to-earth, romantic and sometimes heartbreaking, have secured Gary's place INSIDE Nashville, among its elite.
The last few years have been a roller coaster ride of extreme highs and the extremist of lows, with the death of his wife in 2004. But throughout the ride, his music has always reflected who he is. With the release of his 'Greatest Hits', we become acutely aware that music does truly have a healing power, as heard in 'Life Ain't Always Beautiful' and 'The Best I Ever Had'.
With his current single, 'A Feelin' Like That' and the edgy 'As A Crow Flies', we can see that Gary has landed back firmly on his feet, moving forward at full throttle.
Adding 'Tough Little Boys' and 'Man To Man' to the collection, show off a sensitive side of Gary; while 'The One' and 'Loving You Against My Will' remind us how romantic and sexy his lyrics can be.
From the opening notes of track 1 to the closing refrain of track 15, Gary Allan's 'Greatest Hits' is a tribute to an amazing artist who effortlessly mixes his sorrow with his joy'.a delight to listen to, a masterpiece of showcasing his personal and professional triumphs. Bravo, Gary.
