Josh Turner
”Cracker Barrel Presents LIVE AT THE RYMAN”
CD Review by Preshias
Josh is man of his word. He is quoted as saying "I want to thank God for surrounding me with wonderful people and allowing me to make a living making music." He speaks the truth. Josh is surrounded by legendary songwriters, artist, musicians and industry people who believe in Josh. With the support of his beautiful wife Jennifer, family and fans, this CD is just one star in sky that will be a life time of stars. Did you know that People magazine named Josh one of Country's 25 Hottest Stars? Ummm, we may be onto something.
Josh kicks off the 14 track with a self penned song titled "Way Down South." It is a toe tapping ditty that makes you think Josh has first hand experience of this country boy's life. Another self penned tune "Backwoods Boy" shows Josh is a bona fide tunesmith (as if Long Black Train had not) Josh also delivers that smash hit - "Long Black Train" - that kicked off his country music stardom career and earned him several nominations and numerous awards.
"What It Ain't" is kickin' your heels and the dust up. You'll want to punch the "Back" button several times and get another heapin' helpin' of this ol' boy but let the CD roll and listen to "She'll Go On You." It is a slow paced, well-written song about how you need to tell your loved ones how you feel before time closes its window. Josh packs emotion and crystal-clear diction that lifts him above the pack and places him firmly among the ranks of the Stetson-wearing superstars.
Several of the songs are immediately recognizable. Like "Silver Wings" penned by legend Merle the Pearl. I have to say, I hit the repeat button several times throughout the review. Josh does the man and his music well on this track. This song was one of the reasons. He does it again for the late great Hank Williams on "I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive," the song Williams wrote with Fred Rose all those years ago. Josh keeps the tradition on the money and makes the listener feel like they are there ... all over again.
"Angels Fall Sometimes" is an emotional ballad about dealing with one's feelings about a girl that has made your dreams come true. I wonder if Jennifer might have possibly crossed his mind on this one. Josh is co-writing on this truth-packed ballad with hit writers Tony Martin and Mark Nesler. If you ever experienced that 'I can't believe she picked me' feeling. you'll empathize with this beautiful song.
"Loretta Lynn's Lincoln" is songwriters Shawn Camp and Mark D. Sanders ode to legend Loretta Lynn. She has been an inspiration for many songs. Crank up number 9
and hit the cruise mode.
With the #12 cut, "Gravity," Josh shows his sensitive and hopeless romantic side on this co-penned tune. It is written by Josh and Mark Narmore (the writer of "She'll Go On You.")
Josh brings tradition full circle with his version of the Hall Of Fame song "He Stopped Loving Her Today." This song has been dubbed by critics as the greatest country song ever written. Of course it hits a familiar note with the audience. Remember the chills you felt when you first heard the legendary ballad? Expect them again. Josh does the legends and the writers proud once again.
"Long Black Train" brings the audience to their feet! You can tell by the applause, Josh is loved!
Josh offers up fourteen opportunities to get to hear real honest country music brought forth to you in creative ways that makes anyone who loves country music to beg for more. Josh, we appreciate your musical sincerity!
