Ontario Country Music Association Forming Board of Directors

Submitted By Rob MacArthur

Ajax, ON - The Ontario Country Music Association is in the process of forming its board of directors as part of its incorporation process.

This current version of an association for country music in Ontario started in October 2007 through the efforts of Durham residents Rob MacArthur, Sara Turner, and Greg Gillis, as well Terry Fernihough of Ottawa.  All four felt that country music in Ontario needed a boost and an association to lead that charge.

Funding for incorporation came from the members of the soon-to-be association themselves.  Over 60 members believe in the cause with more joining every week.

A general call went out for those that wanted to sit on the board, and now forming members are going directly to industry people in Ontario that they feel that would help champing the cause and be a benefit to the association and their members.

The mandate of the association is promote, develop, and support country music in Ontario.  They have already started the promotion part by having a showcase, with more in the works.  Acoustic Open Mics hosted by the association are also in the works across Ontario.

The development part will come in the form of education to its members on how to be successful in the very tough business of country music.  Regular education courses on song writing, marketing, promotion, radio tracking, showcasing, and touring, are in the plan.

The final item of support will be in the form of lobbying on the members behalf, as well as help them to get funding for projects, tours, and other areas that will advance the member's career.
