Miranda Lambert's accomplishments continue to build and there doesn't seem to be an end to her talent!  The singer/songwriter snagged the "Best New Female Vocalist" Award at the 42nd Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on May 15.  After an electrifying performance of her latest single, "Famous in a Small Town," Lambert graciously accepted the honor from last year's winner, Carrie Underwood. This marked her first award as a recording artist.  Miranda also establishes herself and a powerhouse country artist, appearing on the May/June cover of highly respected music magazine No Depression. Her sophomore album Crazy Ex-Girlfriend debuted at #1 on the Nielsen SoundScan Country Chart and #6 on the Top 200 Albums Chart with nearly 53,000 copies sold in the first week. The album also entered the country digital albums chart at #1. The number one debut is the second for Lambert, with her critically-acclaimed and platinum-selling debut album Kerosene also hitting number one the first week on the charts in 2005. Jerry Lee Lewis: Greatest Live Performances
DVD features 17 live performances and two bonus pieces from the '50s through the '90s. The new DVD includes The Killer's first television appearance, his momentous 1957 performance of "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On" for the Steve Allen Show and his memorable rendition of "Breathless" on the Dick Clark Show - the only live performance ever in the history of that show. The collection also features Jerry Lee in Memphis premiering "Great Balls of Fire" on the Dewey Phillips Show. Perhaps most notable is his own television special that aired to an ecstatic audience in England in 1964 and can be seen in its entirety for the first time since the day it aired. Two performances from the 1970s taken from Ralph Emery's Pop Goes the Country close out the DVD. On the first, Lewis sings the poignant "Who's Gonna Play This Old Piano," and on the second he joins his cousin Mickey Gilley at the piano for a boogie woogie medley. Additionally, the DVD contains one of the most comprehensive and revealing interviews Lewis has ever done as a bonus feature. Shot at Sam Phillips' legendary Sun Records in Memphis, Lewis talks in depth about his first historic recordings and his relationship with Elvis Presley and other greats from the era.

Twenty years after she left West Virginia University without her degree, Kathy Mattea returned May 15 to accept an honorary doctorate of the arts. The award-winning entertainer had started college thinking a degree in engineering would be her career path. Her heart and voice had other plans. By her sophomore year, Mattea realized there was another place where she belonged...in front of a crowd.  "I got so caught up in singing and playing music that I didn't have time for much else."  Not long after realizing her potential as an artist, she left WVU headed to Nashville, taking with her lessons learned. Fast forward 20 years and two Grammy's later to the same mountain girl and the same mountain town, and find Mattea still learning, while having a little fun. This time, lessons are light-hearted and filled with a little teasing.  After being schooled in the meaning behind the different colors on commencement robes, someone introduced Mattea to the Dean of the Engineering Department. "They introduced me as his "most successful dropout" Kathy said. "I just hung my head as he got closer and closer to me. It was pretty funny."
