Halifax Media Idol Finalist – Ann MacGregor of Pictou County’s CKEC Radio – Wins 2008 National Media Idol Title

Ten Media Idol finalists – but only one winner. Some kept to the original track, while others changed things up with a remix, but each Media Idol finalist did it for charity. In the end, Ann MacGregor of Pictou County, Nova Scotia’s CKEC 94.1 East Coast FM captured the highest number of votes for her enthusiastic performance of “The Twinkle Remix: Part II,” her own creative rendition of the classic “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”
The 10 regional finalists competing on behalf of media outlets across the country spent three days in Toronto this week getting an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Canadian Idol experience. It was a whirlwind trip, as each of the competitors shot their final Top 10 videos, which appeared on idol.CTV.ca for the public to vote on once more.
“I feel very loved right now,” said MacGregor of her win. “I would not be here without the support of friends, family and our listeners. And although I’m not the best singer in the bunch, I did it to raise awareness and money for the SPCA.”
Chosen during the 2008 Canadian Idol national audition tour, the regional media winners earned a combined $10,000 for the charities of their choice before joining the Top 10 Canadian Idols on an expenses-paid trip to Toronto this week. The finalists were treated to a taste of life as an Idol, rehearsing their songs with Canadian Idol and American Idol vocal coach Debra Byrd and receiving advice during a style session with Canadian Idol wardrobe consultants.
