Toronto, ON (September 12, 2007) - When Hamilton's Brian Melo's name was revealed as the 2007 Canadian Idol champion in the final minutes of last night's star-studded season finale, a remarkable 2.75 million Canadians were watching, CTV confirmed today. In all, the unforgettable, two-hour Canadian Idol finale ended with an average audience of 2.25 million viewers, the single biggest audience of the season and once again the No. 1 program of the night in Canada.

In addition, Canadian Idol:
- Saw nearly 5 million Canadians tune in to some or all of the broadcast.
- More than doubled the audience of Big Brother (CBS/Global; 983,000) nationally, during the 9-10 p.m. hour.

- Was the most-watched show in Toronto by 25 per cent compared to the second-ranked show (CTV National News). With 428,000 viewers, Canadian Idol saw its Toronto audience jump 21 per cent compared to last year's finale.
With the latest season now concluded, Canadian Idol finishes for the fifth season in a row as the most-watched program of the summer on Canadian television. The non-simulcast Idol drew 23 per cent more viewers than the second most-ranked series on Canadian TV this summer, America's Got Talent (CTV/NBC).
"Five seasons later, Canadian Idol not only continues to capture the hearts of Canadians from coast-to-coast, but still transforms the lives of the competitors who entertain us each summer," said Susanne Boyce, CTV President of Programming and Chair of the CTV Media Group. "Congratulations to both Brian and Jaydee and thank you for a thrilling finish.
