This past Sunday night (April 6, 2008), Warner Music Canada recording artists Blue Rodeo were named Group of the Year for an unprecedented 5th time in their career.  This is also the third decade that the band has been called up to the podium to accept the coveted honor.

Blue Rodeo are currently celebrating their twentieth year as a recording act with their critically acclaimed 11th studio album Small Miracles.  The band won the first of three consecutive Group of the Year awards in 1989.  They won again in 1996 on the strength of their best selling album 5 Days in July.

In total, Blue Rodeo were a part of three Juno wins at this year’s awards.  In addition to Group of the Year, their album Small Miracles was tapped as Adult Alternative Album of The Year.  A third related award was handed out to director Christopher Mills who was given the Video of the Year award for his work on the Blue Rodeo clip “C’mon.”

Warner Music Canada artists totaled 6 awards including Warner Brothers recording artist Michael BublĂ© who performed his hit single “Everything” on the show and was named the winner of the Doritos Fan Choice Award.  The fact that this is the one award voted on by music fans and not the music industry is proof positive of Michael’s enormous popularity.  Michael’s most recent album has been certified triple platinum in Canada spurred on by two hit singles (“Everything” and “Lost”) as well as a sold out Canadian tour.

Billy Talent’s Live DVD 666 won the award for Music DVD of the Year.  The DVD captured the band’s incendiary live performances at the Brixton Academy in London , Philipshalle in DĂĽsseldorf , Germany and the unbelievable Rock Am Ring Festival in NĂĽrburgring , Germany , where they played in front of an audience of close to 100,000 people.  The DVD was directed by François and Pierre Lamoureux.
