Gripping Series About Life on an Oil Rig To Premiere Wednesday, June 18, 10 p.m. (ET)

Nashville, TN - May 9, 2008 -- Country music star Trace Adkins has written and recorded the title song for truTV Network's upcoming real life, high stakes series, BLACK GOLD. The series follows the dangerous world of drilling for American oil in west Texas, presenting an unfiltered look at lives on the line.

Adkins, who once worked as a roughneck and derrickman on off-shore drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, is passionate about the profession and brings his first-hand experience to the show through his song. BLACK GOLD, one of the most explosive, relevant and riveting original series of the year, comes to truTV from renowned storyteller/executive producer Thom Beers (Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers), and is set to premiere Wednesday, June 18, at 10 p.m. (ET).

"We are thrilled that Trace wrote this original song for BLACK GOLD," said Marc Juris, executive vice president and general manager of truTV. "His involvement highlights the importance of the series, how incredibly relevant it is right now with the oil crisis looming larger every day. Trace knows that the men featured in BLACK GOLD are drilling for oil on our soil, an important but dangerous job, where loss of life or limb is not uncommon. His understanding of these men and what they face really comes through in his song."

Each one-hour episode of BLACK GOLD focuses on oil rigs and the men who hope to strike it rich. It costs oil men millions of dollars to drill two miles into the Earth in search of crude, and every second can lead to boom or bust. With only 50 days to successfully locate and retrieve the precious commodity, the roughnecks, as they are called on the rig, endure exhausting, dangerous work demands and face losing something more valuable than the money of the oil men. They risk losing their own lives. It all adds up to big risk, big reward, big characters and most of all big business.

Since leaving the oil rigs, Adkins has become a multi-faceted entertainer, finding success as a performer, musician, author and actor. An esteemed member of the Grand Ole Opry, he has enjoyed a remarkable twelve-year career full of chart-topping success, national TV appearances and highly successful tours. He has had twenty-four hit singles, recorded seven studio albums and has released two greatest hits compilations. His latest CD, American Man: Greatest Hits Vol. II was released in December and includes his three-week #1 smash, "You're Gonna Miss This." Adkins' most recent success includes being runner-up on NBC's hit reality series, "The Celebrity Apprentice" and winning the 2008 CMT Male Video of the Year Award. Coming up, he will perform on the 48th Annual ACM Awards Show airing May 18 on CBS. He is presently continuing his 2008 American Man Tour with stops in California, Arizona, Florida and Alaska throughout the summer and will release his eighth studio album in the fall.
