George Canyon Announces ‘In A Quiet Room’ Tour

Jul 25, 2007

On September 19th Canadian country star George Canyon kicks off his 43-date cross-Canada ‘In A Quiet Room’ tour. The tour, which starts in Courtenay, BC, moves across the country traveling over 12,000 kilometres and hitting all ten provinces before ending on November 20th in Canyon’s hometown of Pictou, Nova Scotia. Following in the footsteps of Johnny Cash, whose intimate club tour in the mid-1990s was an inspiration for this project, he will play mainly venues seating 500 or less.

Canyon, whose version of Cash’s “Ring of Fire” is a crowd favourite at his live shows, loved the idea of adopting The Man in Black’s business model. "I've been blessed to win two Juno awards, and a bunch of CCMA awards, but none of that matters if we can't celebrate it all with the fans,” says Canyon.  “In 2006 we played arenas right across the country. As we brainstormed about what we wanted to do for 2007, we came up with the "In a Quiet Room" concept.  Most of these venues are intimate enough to make people feel like I am performing for them alone, and that was exactly what we wanted.  Fans should be prepared to hang out with me and the band for about 2 hours as we crank out some of my hits and pay homage to some of the classic country songs that have had a profound influence on my career.”

"This show is about a 'once in a lifetime experience' for fans," says Canyon's agent, Jim Cressman.  "This is going to be less about the smoke, the lights and the glitz and more about showcasing George's personality and world class vocals.  It is a landmark event, that will sell-out fast, and we are proud to deliver it to his fans - they deserve it!”

Currently receiving airplay across Canada with his hit single, “I Want You to Live,” Canyon is a well-known voice in country music. His video for the song hit number one on the CMT Canada Chevy Top 20 in May and remained on top for two weeks in a row. A two-time Juno Award winner for Country Recording of the Year and a multiple Canadian Country Music Award winner, he is recording an album slated for release in the fall.
