Fat cats, just getting fatter
Lining their pockets, what does it matter
All I want is an honest wage
A piece of ground where my kids are safe
Phil Vassar, "This Is My Life"
Hometown Photo Shoot, "This Is My Life" Video Turn A New Page
(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) "This Is My Life," the first single from Phil Vassar's
next album, is a departure for the piano-pounding songwriter and, at the
same time, another likely hit in his long succession of chart toppers.
Marrying his award-winning songwriting stylings with pointed social
commentary, Vassar has crafted what might best be called a "shout-along"
chorus for the working man's anthem.
Vassar's fresh perspective comes as he starts a new chapter in his career by
signing with Universal Records South and recording a new studio album due
later this year. Continuing the "I Want It Back" theme, Phil returned to his
hometown of Lynchburg, VA last week for the photo shoot for his new album.
The blue-collar town, nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains, is a perfect
backdrop for the sentiments Vassar is pouring out in his most recent
songwriting.
As well, the video for "This Is My Life" will contrast the hectic,
$4-gas-fueled push and pull of our demanding culture with images of home,
family and community. The truly important things the song demands the right
to focus on. Acclaimed director Peter Zavadil employed innovative green
screen, composite and staging technologies for the clip, which was also shot
last week.
