NASHVI
LLE—December 11, 2006—
In what is shaping up to be country music’s de facto recorded event of the year, Vince Gill’s multi-disc, multi-artist
These Days album has just been certified platinum. This achievement came during the same week the congenial singer/songwriter wrapped up the first leg of his record-breaking These Days Tour and picked up his 35th Grammy nomination.
“It's exciting to be involved in such a creative display of artistry,” said Luke Lewis, Co-Chairman of Universal Music Group
Nashville. “This project illustrates the depth of Vince's talent and shows that fans demand his distinct take on the country music genre."
Gill's superb MCA Records project is already topping critic's year-end "best of" lists. Amazon.com listed
These Days as the #1 Country album. Barnes & Noble (bn.com) chose
These Days as one of their "Our Absolute Faves of 2006," commenting that "Veteran country singer, songwriter, and guitarist Vince Gill had a little something to get off his chest -- namely, the best music of his career. Sprawling across four discs neatly divided into southern soul, bluegrass, western swing, and jazz-tinged ballads, it's a stunning musical achievement: Any one of these discs, released on its own, could have been the country album of the year." Gill's was the only country album on this list that included Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Ray Charles.
On Dec. 7, the
Record
Academy announced that Gill’s “The Reasons Why,” a track from
These Days, has been nominated for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. The news arrived just as Gill was closing out the first segment of his current tour with a three-day run in Las Vegas.
In a creative surge virtually unparalleled in popular music, Gill co-wrote, co-produced and recorded for
These Days 43 new songs that range the spectrum from country and bluegrass to jazz and pop. In doing so, he involved guest performances from a wide array of his admiring fellow artists, among them Gretchen Wilson, Diana Krall, Del McCoury, Rodney Crowell, Amy Grant, Alison Krauss, LeAnn Rimes, Patty Loveless, Emmylou Harris, Phil Everly, Bonnie Raitt and John Anderson.
Originally scheduled to conclude in
Las Vegas, the These Days Tour will resume next year by popular demand.
